Francis C. Harris, PhD, MBA
Dr. Francis C. Harris is a licensed psychologist with a private practice devoted to providing clinical and consultation services in long-term care facilities for longer than ten years. Dr. Harris also offers leadership assessment, training, consultation and coaching services to long-term care professionals, serving individual and corporate clients. He is co-creator of the DR. EFFECT® Bedside-Manner Skills Training Program, and the LEADER-EFFECT® System for evaluating and refining leadership skills, and he has conducted numerous workshops based on those programs.
Prior to entering independent practice, he was a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, with responsibilities including service at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic as clinical administrator and director of Geriatric Continuing Education. He received his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Georgia and his MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and has authored several book chapters.
Donald J. Steighner, MA, JD
Don Steighner received his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Economics and Business Management from Grove City College and his JD from Duquesne University. He served as a staff judge advocate and hospital consultant during his four years of active duty in the United States Air Force, after which he practiced family and senior law in Mississippi and Pennsylvania. His affinity for working with seniors during life-stage transitions led him to pursue a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Gerontology at Slippery Rock University, and set the stage for his service-oriented career working in more than 40 Long-Term Care facilities.
Don is a frequent and very well-received presenter on a wide variety of clinical and administrative issues unique to long-term care settings. He has conducted numerous in-house clinical and leadership training programs, and has been a featured speaker at meetings of long-term care professional and support organizations. He also was a presenter and contributing author of a series of educational programs for long-term care staff that was funded by a grant from the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania. He has worked with Dr. Harris since 1998.
